The main scientific-technological objective of the Institute is translational research in specific areas of human health, from the generation of knowledge with an interdisciplinary approach to its application in the design of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies transferable to the clinical setting and the national productive sector.

Along with this aim (and derived from it) is the education and training of highly skilled human resources and the outreach of our results and findings to the community.

The translational profile of our investigations is made possible by an infrastructure that includes basic research labs (molecular and cellular biology, microsurgery, bioengineering, electrophysiology), pre-clinical research facilities (animal house for small and large mammals, operating rooms for sterile experimental thoracic, splacnic  and vascular surgeries, integrative pathophysiology labs for anesthesized and conscious, chronically instrumented animals) and the Favaloro University Hospital, with large experience in daily multidisciplinary work.

The interdisciplinary approach that has characterized our institution from the very beginning has allowed to address each of the projects aimed at improving human health from their most theoretical aspects (mathematical modelling of complex biological systems) to clinical trials, including basic and pre-clinical research, giving it the eminently translational profile that it holds.
