The Florencio Fiorini Foundation and the Academia Nacional de Medicina awarded the "Subsidios Florencio Fiorini para Investigación en Ciencias Biomédicas" to Dr. Damian Craiem for his project entitled

"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLIED TO THE DETECTION OF ARTERIAL CALCIUM IN EARLY PREVENTION OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES"

The grant objective is to provide financial support for scientific encouragement to Argentine biomedical professionals to develop basic or applied research projects in human medicine in the country.

The project will be developed in the Laboratorio de Bioingeniería of the IMETTyB and under the supervision of Dr. Liliana Favaloro.

Together with Dr. Damian Craiem in the Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad Favaloro are working Dr. Mariano Casciaro, Dr. Ariel Pascaner and Eng. Federico Guilenea.

The objective of the project is to use computed tomography images to train a convolutional neural network that automatically detects vascular calcifications. Early detection of these calcifications helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
